At Clearview Eyecare, every eye examination we provide includes an updated prescription and an ocular health check. Your appointment will start with Rachel, our office manager and optometric technician, who will begin with pre-testing measurements. These readings act as a starting point for the Optometrist. From there, your time with the doctor will begin. Your Optometrist will go over your health history, provide you with an updated prescription, as well as perform a thorough examination of the inside of your eye.

 

"But I don’t have any eye issues. Why is an ocular health check important?"

 

Many ocular health issues can develop in silence with no signs or symptoms. Eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and systemic symptoms relating to issues such as diabetes, high cholesterol and increased blood pressure, can be seen with a thorough exam of the retina without any symptoms at all. 

 

“My children don’t complain about their eyes, why should I bring them in for an eye exam?”

 

It is just as important for babies, toddlers, and children to have their eyes examined as it is for any adult or senior. At a young age, children may not realize or be able to properly communicate vision issues. Even if they don’t know their alphabet, the Optometrist can still determine that their vision and ocular muscles are developing normally. Conditions like strabismus (cross-eye) and amblyopia (lazy eye) can sometimes be reversed if caught and treated early. Take advantage of OHIP coverage for children - they are permitted to have insured eye examinations every year until they turn 20! The Canadian Association of Optometrists recommend your baby undergoes their first eye examination between the age of 6-9 months, then annually.
