DOCTORS & STAFF
DR. NISHA FERENAC - OWNER/OPTOMETRIST
Born and raised in Ottawa, I currently live in Burlington with my husband and our two beautiful boys. After obtaining my Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Waterloo, I completed my degree in Optometry at the University of Manchester.
Following graduation, I gained tremendous clinical experience in ocular pathologies and treatments by volunteering in various communities across Central America for a year. Due to the demographics in the area, I was exposed to many diseases including glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic related pathology and corneal surface disorders. After my return to Canada, I had the honour of working at McMaster Children’s Hospital, acquiring extensive knowledge in paediatric eye examinations. I was also lucky enough to help establish protocols for the EYE-MAC project, resulting in a publication in the BMC Medical Educational Journal.

I am a member of both the Ontario Association of Optometrists and the Ontario College of Optometrists, and
hold my board certification to prescribe Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents (TPA's) in the treatment or co-management of ocular diseases. I am proud to be an affiliate of several Laser Eye Centres and am able to provide pre and post operative services for laser eye surgery patients. I make it a priority to stay current in the Optometry field by both attending continuing education classes and personal reading.
I was lucky enough to be the diamond winner of the "Best Optometrist in Hamilton" award by the Hamilton Spectator’s Readers’ Choice for 2023. I am grateful for the patients that trust me with their eye care, and look forward to seeing each and every one of you!”

She was hired for her first Optometric Technician position in 2013, where she was trained directly by an Optometrist. Over the years, Rachel has gained knowledge and experience from several clinics, picking up new skills along the way.

She has extensive knowledge of contact lenses, and patients will note her endless encouragement and patience during a contact lens training. She is responsible for all pretesting and administrative duties. Rachel shows special interest in ocular diseases, consistently striving to learn as much as she can to provide the highest standard of customer care for all of our patients.
Rachel enjoys the outdoors, spending many of her weekends camping and hiking. She loves to read, relax at home with her two cats, participate in axe throwing leagues, and travelling around the world (especially to Scotland).
